What a fantastic day, a full house, 30 fly fishers, all ready to cast for snowball 2025.
Straight away Mike Macksill into a fish, not even a minute on the clock, winning Mike the voucher for the Cafe Nairn, Breakfast.
But Kevin Neri and Scott Reith on the first peg, 4 to the net, each. Mike Macskill close on 3.
The weather was, for once on the side of the fishers, overcast and no wind.
The whistle went 3 pegs moved. Second of the morning session. Richard Pate, John Hop, John Brown and Iain Chalmers all having 2, too the net. A few on 1 and a few blanking. There are a few fish showing. Scott Reith had one keeping him just in the front.
The weather holding, moving on to 3 peg of the morning. Willie Jacobson, 5 to the net. Scott Howell 2, as did John Drummond and Finley Jack. The scores are close. At this point, a lot of fish dropped. We have had 3 fish over 5lbs.
Forth move of the morning.
It's getting harder, a few on 1 fish, quite a few blanking. The bung, the best method at the moment. All to fish for.
We move onto the5 peg of the morning. Quite a few changing method. There are a fish caught, on this session. Keeping the Snowball competition open to anyone.
Last peg before lunch.
The pressure is on. Most fishers changing method again. But only 7 succeed with fish to the net.
Total of fish caught before lunch , 91. Fantastic result. The afternoon session, would be hard, temperature dropping. Not many fish showing. Curry Lunch well appreciated.
13.15 afternoon session starts. Scott Reith, Scott Howell 2 fish, Kevin Neri, Chris Macky, Richard Jack, Andrew Grey, Alan McMuchy all on 1.
Looking good for an afternoon of fishing.
But ad we all know, the fish rule the catch rate.
Hard going for most. Only ones and 2 making the difference.
But saying that, on the second peg after lunch, Scott Reith lands 4. Scott Howell 1, Richard Pate 2, Richard Jack 1, Jock Royan 2, William Broardley 1, Paddy MacRae 1. Methods changing, lures and under the bung. But it's the depth which makes the difference.
With just 2 session to go, Kevin Neri, John, Richard Pate, Richard Jack, Finley Jack, James Farquhar, Andy Lambie, Iain Chalmers, Jock Royan, Billy and Alan McMuchy all have fish. So the afternoon sessions producted 31 fish.
